Counter-Strike is a popular mod (enhancement) for
Half-Life, a first person shooter. It features two groups, terrorists
and counter terrorists. You choose either side, when you come on a
server. The best thing about this game and the thing that separates it
from other FPS games is realism. In this game you handle real-life
weapons, which behave (almost) like in RL. Damage done, depends on the
part of the body that has been hit. For example: if you are hit in the
head with a rifle and you don't wear a helmet you will die instantly, but
if you wear armour and are hit in torso, you wont die before taking quite
a few shots.

A big thing that ads to the realism in CS is a large variety of different types of weapons. You could classify weapons in CS in these groups:
- Cold weapons (knife)
- Handguns (Desert Eagle, USP .45, Glock 18, SIG P228, Dual Berretas, Five-Seven)
- Shotguns (Benneli M3 Super90, Benneli XM1014)
- Automatic rifles (M4A1, SiG 552 Commando, Steyr AUG, AK-47)
- Sniper rifles (AWP, Stery Scout, G3/Sg1, Sig 550)
- Sub-machine guns (MP5, TMP, FN P90, MAC-10, UMP)
- Machine guns (FN M249 Para)
- Grenades (Smoke, HE and Concussion grenades)
Each type of a weapon requires different tactics. Snipers are killers at a distance, while rifles are good in close combat and at medium range, shotguns are very good in close combat but suck at longer ranges, plus they have a long reload time. Sub-machine guns are good at close to medium range if you know how to use them. They are no good at penetrating armour, but if you shoot in a head you will kill opponent very quickly, because SM guns have a very high rate of fire.
